On May 4th, 2007 one of the nation’s most devastating tornado outbreaks struck Kansas.  The most destructive tornado in the outbreak occurred on the evening of May 4 in central Kansas, where about 95% of the city of Greensburg in Kiowa County was destroyed by an EF5 tornado.  The super cell killed at least 13 people including 11 in Greensburg and two in nearby Pratt County by a separate tornado

Maxon will be developing the “Energy Master Plan” for the City Of Greensburg in close cooperation with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the EPA.  There are numerous avenues the City Of Greensburg can take as it pertains to the energy infrastructure to serve the town.  The focus of the new energy system will be a 4MW-10MW wind turbine farm along with localized backup via fuel cells.

The result of the Energy Program will provide Greensburg the 100% Green and Renewable energy platform that the city desires.  Greensburg will truly become a model and leader for municipal environmental initiatives.

"We applaud Greenburg’s commitment to becoming one the most environmentally conscious municipality in the nation.  There is tremendous opportunity for Greensburg to be a catalyst in environmental responsibility nationwide.  Not only will this provide a benchmark for other municipalities, but it will certainly help Greensburg in lowering their costs to provide energy to the town." said Marc O'Connor, Maxon's President.
